Strike 2–Is anyone paying attention?

February 9, 2010

If you noticed the last post, it was about a 6.5 earthquake that struck off the northern shore of California on January 9, 2010.  What wasn’t publicized (or at least I heard nothing of it) was that there was a second earthquake, a 5.9, that struck in the same area almost one month to the day later, on February 4th, and another one in the same area, a 2.9, an hour later.  I guess you would call this mild second one an aftershock.  Considering the earthquakes that have struck since the one on January 9th, and most especially the most devastating one in Haiti, this one striking in the same area of California again caused me to take notice.  It seems that the earth truly is “groaning”…to put it Scripturally.  According to the USGS list of earthquakes for the past week in the US of a magnitude of 2.5 or greater, this area of Northern California has had 7 other quakes ranging from 2.6 to 3.6.  This brings the number to 9 in the past week, in this same Northern California area that had the 6.5 a month ago.  These may seem insignificant, but I believe we should pay attention.

I also find it very interesting that there was a mild earthquake, only a 3.3 earlier this same day, February 4th  in the TEXAS PANHANDLE.  The unusual location, and that it was on the same day as the one in California, got my attention.
