Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan in prophecy and in the headlines

On Monday, April 26, 2010, the Lord had me open my Bible to Zechariah and begin reading at chapter 11, verse 1, and had me read through chapter 12.  I noticed in Zechariah 11:1-2, God is speaking judgment on Lebanon and Bashan (modern-day Syria). In verse 3, Jordan is also judged. In chapter 12, verses 1-3, God says that Jerusalem will be a cup of trembling and a burdensome stone for all who come against her.  Through the prophet Zechariah, God is revealing that these nations will fight Israel in the end times and how God will defend her and bring His wrath upon the nations who war against Israel.

The next days headline in the news was:

U.S., Israel say Syria

arming Hezbollah with missiles.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – “U.S. and Israeli defense ministers accused Syria on Tuesday of arming Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas with increasingly powerful missiles…” U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who spoke alongside Israel’s Ehud Barak after a meeting at the Pentagon, said Syria as well as Iran were providing Hezbollah with weapons of “ever-increasing capability.” “We are at a point now where Hezbollah has far more rockets and missiles than most governments in the world”, said Gates.

This, of course, is not the first time that Hezbollah in Lebanon has fought Israel.  The Lord showing me these passages concerning these Arab nations, and the next days headlines announcing the threatening plans these nations have against Israel is not mere coincidence.  I believe the Lord is giving us warning of things to come and things to pay close attention to.

Concerning Jordan, on April 5, 2010, in a Wall Street Journal interview with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, he reveals his, and his nations growing hostile attitude toward Israel.  He stated: “for the first time since my father made peace with Israel, our relationship with Israel is at an all bottom low. It hasn’t been as bad as it is today and as tense as it is today.” He went on to state that Jordanians do not see any tangible benefit from peace with Israel.  The Jordanian king stated that he would be meeting with President Obama and advising him to put enough pressure on Israel that would force them to comply with the two-state solution and going back to the pre Six Day War boundaries.  Abdullah concluded by warning Israel that unless it made peace on Arab terms soon, that they would probably face war by summer.

Seven times in chapter 12 of Zechariah, God says the phrase, “in that day”, referring to the Day of the Lord as is brought out in chapter 14, verse 1.  Everywhere we turn we see prophecy rapidly being fulfilled.

Let me admonish you with God’s Word concerning the times we are living in.

19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:19-25

The “day” that is approaching the writer is speaking of in this passage is “The Day of the Lord”–the same “day” that God is speaking of through His prophet Zechariah.  We do not know what all we will live to experience concerning these end times, but God is revealing that the Day of the Lord is near.

If you are a Born Again Believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of Almighty God, now is the time to do as Paul instructed in Ephesians chapter 6–put on the whole armor of God so that you may stand firm in your faith.  If you are not Born Again, TODAY is the day of Salvation.  The One True God is a God of love and mercy and offers His gift of grace, His Son, to all who will receive Him as Savior and Lord.  Repent of your sin and turn to Jesus–the only one who can save you from your sin.  If you say you are a Believer, a Christian, but are disobedient to God’s Word, you are on very dangerous ground.  Wake up! Shake yourself from the stupor of being drunk on the world.  Repent and turn back to the One who shed His blood for you.

Hebrews 10:26-31
26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,
27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.
31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
