Will the nation hear?

June 26, 2010

The governors of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas have all issued proclamations calling for a day of prayer tomorrow, Sunday, June 27, 2010 concerning the oil disaster in the Gulf.  It is good that these states have governors who recognize this nations desperate need for God in this situation.  There will be some Christians who will take this call to prayer seriously, some who will take it lightly, and some will ignore it altogether.

Many will call out to God with 2 Chronicles 7:14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

I’ve yet to hear anyone quote God’s complete sentence.  The first part of His statement is found in verse 13:

“If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; (AFTER God brings judgment upon His people and upon the land…THEN He says) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.”

Wave after wave of God’s judgment has been, and is on this nation.  Are God’s people even recognizing it for what it is?  Are God’s people paying attention?  Do God’s people realize that every time our nation touches Israel (negatively) we are daring to touch the place that God has put His holy name?  To see the connection of this oil well disaster and our “touching” Israel, read my earlier post: “…and I will curse those who curse you.” Gen. 12: 2-3, dated June 25.

God’s people cannot see the sins of their nation when they refuse to see their own wickedness.  God commanded the prophet Ezekiel to speak to the children of Israel, a nation who had rebelled against their God.  He said that they were impudent children and hard-hearted, and compared them to briers and scorpions.  He even warned Ezekiel that they would not receive his prophetic warning and would even come against him, but that he was to warn them anyway –that they would be without excuse when God brought severe judgment upon them.  We need to remember that God showed Ezekiel the abominations that was taking place in the Temple with the religious leaders.  In our own religious self-righteousness we tend to be offended by such statements as this, but if we were truly walking daily in the presence of God, we would have the attitude of Isaiah.

Isaiah 6:1-5 (KJV)
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy,
is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

Because of the wickedness of God’s people and their refusal to repent, God has given our nation over repeatedly to wicked leadership.  Each one has led this nation further down the path of destruction.  Never before though has our leadership taken us to such depths of rebellion against God.  This administration has turned on Israel with such hostility and contempt and made alliances with Israel’s enemies against her.  Our nations leadership continues to bring a curse upon this nation, and the Church for the most part seems to be oblivious. But God is not mocked.  He said clearly:

1 Peter 4:17 (KJV)
17 For the time
is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

A day of prayer for this nation?  Indeed, but not the normal religious thing to do.  If God’s people do not humiliate themselves in fasting and prayers of repentance, if God’s people refuse to search the deepest intents of their hearts and turn from the things that are unholy, and if God’s people do not FEAR GOD and cry out for His mercy in His righteous judgment on this nation, then He will not hear and even greater destruction will come.

God has instructed me to put the trumpet to my mouth and sound the alarm.  Will the nation hear?
