Fresh Manna: You gotta know.

We need to approach God’s Word with fresh eyes and an open heart for the revelation the Holy Spirit desires to impart to us each time we read it. I love it when I’m reading Scripture I’ve read multiple times over, and the Lord decides to do a spiritual download. It becomes “Fresh Manna” from above.

I love the Psalms. Being a psalmist and worship leader, when I read the songs of King David I feel a kindred spirit. I know that Jesus is prophetically revealed throughout. This morning I decided to just begin at the beginning again with the first Psalm. Midway of the second psalm became “Fresh Manna”.

I will declare the decree; The Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings; be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve The Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Psalms 2:8-12

Immediately, I saw Satan’s tempting Jesus in the wilderness as recorded in Matthew 4:9…

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

At this, Jesus put a stop to Satan’s blasphemy. He replied:

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship The Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Matthew 4:10

With each temptation, Jesus countered by quoting the Torah (from the book of Deuteronomy). Jesus knew the Torah, the prophets, the kings, and the Psalms. Have you ever noticed that with this last temptation Satan didn’t question Jesus’ sonship? When Satan was unable to get Jesus to question his sonship and deity and was getting nowhere fast with the whole “if thou be the Son of God” pretext, he just cut to the chase and said what he wanted to all along…BOW!

…if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

But what Satan didn’t know was that Jesus knew who He himself was and what His Father had already promised him…because Jesus knew His Father’s Word. He already knew that the kingdoms of this world would one day all become His. Jesus knew that Yahweh had already decreed through King David that all of the kingdoms of the world, even to the uttermost parts of the earth would be Messiah’s…simply for the asking.

The Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Psalm 2:8

Jesus knew who His Father was, who He was, and who He was in Yahweh. The question we must ask ourselves is, DO WE? Do we know Yahweh? Is He our Father? Do we understand who we are IN JESUS? Do we know what His promises to us are IN HIM? If we do, there is NOTHING that Satan can tempt us with that we cannot overcome.  When Satan comes to us and questions our sonship in God by saying something such as: If you’re really a child of God you would not even be tempted by this. Or possibly: If God really loved you, this wouldn’t be happening to you. Then, just like with Jesus, it won’t work.  We too will do as Yeshua-Jesus and tell Satan; “IT IS WRITTEN!” And when you do, don’t be surprised when Satan just cuts to the chase and offers you the moon if you’ll just compromise your faith and obedience to God–if you will just BOW before him instead.

It is imperative that we read God’s Word so that we KNOW in whom we have believed and are persuaded that He is able to keep that which we have committed unto him against the day that all mankind are judged.

Fresh manna? Indeed!

Happy Feasting!
